Gofod Glas: Exploring our connection to freshwater in the Conwy catchment

At Natural Resources Wales (NRW), we know how important freshwater is – not just for nature, but for people too. That’s why we’re proud to be working in partnership with North Wales Wildlife Trust and Dyffryn Dyfodol, with support from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, on Gofod Glas Conwy, a unique and creative project exploring people’s relationship with freshwater in the Conwy Catchment area.

Gofod Glas is all about discovering what freshwater means to the communities who live, work, and visit the Conwy river catchment. Through collaboration, learning, and sharing ideas, we’re discovering new and sustainable ways to live alongside our rivers, lakes, and streams. Gofod Glas is about connection, curiosity, and creativity – because every drop has a story to tell.

The project began in April 2024 and will run until July 2027, but we hope its impact will last far beyond that. Over the coming months, Gofod Glas will continue listening to local people, gathering ideas, and responding to the needs of communities. Whether it’s through workshops, storytelling, art, or simply conversations by the riverbank, Gofod Glas is about bringing people together to connect with and care for their freshwater environments.

And there’s some exciting news: if you’ve got an idea that explores our relationship with freshwater – whether that’s rivers, lakes, or streams – Gofod Glas is offering £250 and support to help make it happen! This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your creative ideas to life and make a real difference in the Conwy catchment area. Find out more here.

Through our involvement in Gofod Glas, NRW will listen and share our perspectives – including our diverse work on freshwater – and explore how creative approaches can inspire communities to take action for real and lasting change. We are having important conversations with our partners and the wider community to ensure Gofod Glas makes a real difference.

Clean and healthy freshwaters are vital for wildlife, for recreation, for livelihoods, and for our well-being – and by working together, we can help protect them for generations to come.
