Personal flood plan
Use this service to make a personal flood plan with the members of your household.
When writing a flood plan you should consider:
- who can install your flood gates and other flood products and how long it will take
- who can prepare your property if flooding is expected when you are at work
- what you will need if the road is flooded and you can’t leave your home for some time
- how to contact friends and family if the phone networks are not working
- making a note of when your pumps or other permanent flood products need servicing
Write your flood plan
Or use this checklist to write your own. You should include:
- where your risk of flooding comes from (the sea, a river or stream, or surface water)
- when you need to take action (when you receive a flood alert or warning, or based on other information)
- how to switch off your gas, electricity, and water supplies
- where to find your flood kit
- where you will go and how to contact each other
- a list of important contacts
Think about protecting your belongings. Make a list of what needs moving to safety, for example:
- your pets
- cars
- sentimental items, like photo albums
- furniture
- electrical equipment
- carpets and rugs
- outdoor furniture
