Personal flood plan

Use this service to make a personal flood plan with the members of your household.

When writing a flood plan you should consider:

  • who can install your flood gates and other flood products and how long it will take
  • who can prepare your property if flooding is expected when you are at work
  • what you will need if the road is flooded and you can’t leave your home for some time
  • how to contact friends and family if the phone networks are not working
  • making a note of when your pumps or other permanent flood products need servicing

Write your flood plan

Or use this checklist to write your own. You should include:

  • where your risk of flooding comes from (the sea, a river or stream, or surface water)
  • when you need to take action (when you receive a flood alert or warning, or based on other information)
  • how to switch off your gas, electricity, and water supplies
  • where to find your flood kit
  • where you will go and how to contact each other
  • a list of important contacts

Think about protecting your belongings. Make a list of what needs moving to safety, for example:

  • your pets
  • cars
  • sentimental items, like photo albums
  • furniture
  • electrical equipment
  • carpets and rugs
  • outdoor furniture
