How to prepare a band 2 marine licence application

Apply for a band 2 marine licence if your work:

  • is not included on the list of band 1 activities
  • will have a total cost of less than £1 million
  • does not include both construction and dredge activities

If you want any part of your application to be confidential, you must explain why. 

We will decide if there is a valid reason to keep the information confidential.

Work involving dredge and disposal

All dredge and disposal applications must include:

How long it takes

You will usually get a decision within 18 weeks.

The 18-week period starts from when we confirm your application is complete. It may not start on the day you submit it.

A marine licence will require you to carry out a number of tasks before you are allowed to start work.

These tasks may include:

  • notifying relevant people or organisations
  • submitting additional documents for us to approve
