Natural Resources Wales gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works at the abandoned Abbey Consols metal mine, Pontrhydfendigaid, Ceredigion (NGR: SN 7431 6612).

The proposed works will involve the following:

Construction of a new outfall (c.0.05 ha) to the River Teifi (SN 7433 6596) and work to capture the adit mine water discharge (c.0.08 ha) (SN 7436 6618).

The work will be localised and involve small-scale infrastructure (<0.2 ha). Natural Resources Wales considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an Environmental Statement in respect of them.

There will be no adverse effect on the River Teifi SAC. The work on the bank of the River Teifi is very localised and will be timed to avoid the sensitive fish spawning period and will avoid disturbance to otters. Measures will be in place to prevent any siltation and mobilisation of metals from the earth works.

Whilst an Environmental Statement will not be produced, an Environmental Action Plan is available, which documents how the environment will be appropriately managed in delivering the improvement works. A copy of the Environmental Action Plan can be obtained from the Project Manager at the address below.

Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
