The role
To provide technical support to a marine projects team, supporting data retrieval, formatting and manipulation to be used for further analyses and evaluation. The role will also help with research and report writing. The post holder will work closely with other marine teams (e.g. marine monitoring, casework, evidence) as well use different systems (e.g. Marine Recorder) and software to find relevant data and render it useable for other purposes, as required by the project officers.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About us
Natural Resources Wales has been putting in place an exciting new programme of marine work with support from Welsh Government’s Nature Networks Programme. The aim of the programme is to deliver projects that build resilient ecological networks across Wales, focussing on improving the condition of protected sites. NRW will deliver a suite of projects focussed on Welsh coasts and seas.. In addition, we will be undertaking feasibility and evidence work that will help us to put in place better management for our coasts and seas in the future.
In this role, you will sit within the Marine Projects Team and work closely with a range of technical specialists in NRW, and partners and stakeholders across Wales.
What you will do
- Work as part of a marine projects team to help deliver NRW’s marine Nature Network programme, focussing on using marine data to inform protected area feature condition assessments and investigations into marine species and habitats declines.
- Work with marine project officers to support their requirements for data retrieval and manipulation, including GIS related work
- Work across teams to understand where data is kept and record and file data as required for the needs of the projects.
- Undertake collation, input, analysis and write-up of monitoring data.
- Support responses to data requests.
- Assist in field work when required.
- Contribute to a positive health, safety and well-being culture
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
- Previous experience working with environmental data (preferably marine)
- Strong and effective self-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- A current full UK valid licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles (cars and vans).
- IT competencies; MS Office and database experience
Welsh language level requirements
- Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
- Desirable: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
