Hiring Personal Assistants! Are you the person we’re looking for?

We are hiring! We are looking for six Personal Assistants to work in areas across Wales.

This is a great chance to use excellent organisational skills to help #TeamNRW deliver real change for the environment in Wales! You will be providing the highest level of professional, administrative and secretarial support to senior Natural Resources Wales (NRW) officers and directors. This will help them to perform their duties in a timely and effective manner and find new ways of working through adapting to meet the needs of #TeamNRW.

Ffion Dempster-Jones is the Personal Assistant to the Head of Operations for Mid Wales and has been in the job since April 2018. In this blog she explains why it’s the perfect job for a highly motivated and organised person.

What’s the job?

My job is varied, and no two days are the same. That is part of why I enjoy the role. In my job I prioritise, categorise and identify deadlines and information. This can be for all sorts of tasks.

It’s my job to coordinate the work of the Head of Operations for Mid Wales to make sure the huge amount and variety of work that comes his way is dealt with on time and in the right way. This means I monitor a daily calendar, schedule meetings and monitor emails. I help other people to work effectively with colleagues and people outside NRW.

I am responsible for organising a wide range of meetings from weekly ones including a small number of staff, to annual meetings which need a great deal of planning and preparation. I deal with a lot of correspondence to and from the Head of Operations with members of the public, colleagues and to politicians.

I also support other senior officials when needed. This includes the Chair, Chief Executive and the Director to Operations.

All this means I work closely with the Head of Operations on all aspects of his work. To do this job means you need to be highly organised, have good interpersonal skills and be able to problem solve.

I have been responsible for arranging large events. The NRW Board were due to visit Welshpool for two days which included a site visit, stakeholder event and then a public session on the second day. The Board, The Chair, Chief Executive and Directors were due to attend along with managers for Mid Wales. I led on organising the key elements. Inviting stakeholders, collating dinner choices, managing biography production and worked with the Board Secretariat to make sure logistics ran smoothly. I supported Leadership and management in the production of the presentation.

My job satisfaction comes from knowing that I have enabled the Head of Mid Wales Operations to perform duties in a timely and effective manner.

Why should people apply?

The PA role is varied and enjoyable as you are exposed to the diversity of areas within NRW.
I think people should apply because it’s a rewarding and challenging job. This is the perfect job for people who like to help others, have very excellent organisational skills and can solve problems to help work patterns flow as smoothly as possible.

Why NRW?

If you are looking to work for a supportive organisation who will reward dedication, then NRW is the organisation for you.

I already had a positive perception of NRW before I started my job. Having been here for two years, my respect for the organisation has grown.

NRW supports my personal development and has a flexible working policy which really helps if you have family commitments. They really do stand by their values, “we care for each other and the people we work with.”
