Head of Strategic Projects

Closing date: 8 February 2023 | Location: Flexible | Salary: £67,537 - £72,627 (Grade 11) plus generous pension

Natural Resources Wales is a young and ambitious organisation with a unique remit that is breaking new ground in its sustainable management of Wales’ precious natural resources.  When natural resources and ecosystems flourish, society and the economy thrive as well.

Established in 2013 by Welsh Government, this pan-Wales organisation of 2400 people with a budget of £242m is the first of its kind in the world to bring together the tools needed to manage, maintain, enhance, and sustain natural resources. NRW has an exceptional legislative framework in Wales that provides scope for this role to make a real difference on a significant scale.

The organisation wants to be one of the first to leave the natural environment in a better state than it found it in, and to help improve the well-being and prosperity of the people of Wales.

As a member of NRW’s Leadership Team, working closely with NRW’s 7 regional Heads of Operations across Wales, you will fulfil a key strategic role in leading the transformation of NRW to deliver the sustainable management of Wales’ natural resources and help tackle the climate and nature emergencies. You will enable and support the development of NRW into a high performing organisation that puts the organisation’s values front and centre.

This is a newly created role in NRW’s Operations Leadership Team which offers a special opportunity for someone with a passion for the natural environment, project and programme design and delivery. The Head of Strategic Projects will lead a team of c 200 staff in the design and delivery of NRW’s key flagship projects Wales wide (estimated to be around £150m over the next 5 years).

Someone with experience in senior project and programme management and the energy to help achieve these goals will be well suited to this opportunity. It will be complex and challenging, but the scope for making a real difference will make it enormously worthwhile.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 8th February 2023.
